Tricholoma yatesii
Mycologia 6(5): 269. 1914.
Common Name: none
Misapplied name: Tricholoma equestre (L.) P. Kumm.
Basionym: Melanoleuca yatesii Murrill
Scattered to gregarious in soil under oaks.
Questionable, but it has probably been eaten many times by persons thinking it was the excellent edible, Tricholoma equestre. But the strongly farinaceous odor and poor flavor are deterrents to consumption.
Macroscopically, virtually identical to Tricholoma equestre, but that species is associated with pine, not oak.
