Tricholoma inamoenum
Les Hyménomycètes ou description de tous les champignons qui croissent en France: 112. 1874.
Common Name: none
For description see Shanks, Bessette et al., Siegel & Schwarz, & 'California Mushrooms'.
Solitary to gregarious in duff under conifers (especially Sitka spruce); uncommon, fruiting from fall to midwinter in coastal forests from Mendocino County northward.
Inedible, the odor and taste are strong deterrents.
Tricholoma inamoenum can be recognized by its small, cream to pale tan fruitbodies with a strong, coal-tar odor and very large spores. Tricholoma sulphureum shares this repugnant odor but is yellow overall, and the cap surface becomes violet in KOH.
