Amanita pruittii
Amanitaceae 1(1): 2. 2014.
Common Name: none
Synonym: Saproamanita pruittii (A.H. Sm. ex Tulloss, J.E. Lindgr. & D. Arora) Redhead, Vizzini, Drehmel & Contu; Aspidella pruittii (A.H. Sm. ex Tulloss, J. Lindgr. & Arora) Redhead & Vizzini
For description see Tulloss et al. 2014.
Solitary to scattered to gregarious in lawns, pastures, open fields, and poor exposed soil; fall to spring; uncommon.
Unknown.
Amanita pruittii can be distinguished by its short stipe, scraggly-scaly volva, compact mealy/warty greyish cap, and typical growth in areas without trees. Unlike most Amanitas, Amanita pruittii is not mycorrhizal. Based on phylogenetic analysis, we do not support the separation of this species into the new genus Saproamanita (see Tulloss et al. 2016)
