Solitary to scattered with live oak, fall through early winter. Common in southern California, rare north.
Edible.
Amanita calyptratoides is distinguished by its brownish, pale brownish, or brownish tan coloration, striate cap margin, the distinct translucent/waxy character of the stipe, and thin to evanescent partial veil.
