Scattered to gregarious in soil under oaks; common, fruiting from fall through mid-winter in coastal and foothill oak forests.

Entoloma cinereolamellatum, a member of the E. lividoalbum complex, a group of look-alike species that are often difficult to separate. Distinctive features of E. cinereolamellatum include a two-toned cap (cream-brown to orangish buff on the disc, dark brown on the margin), gray young gills, a mild odor, and growth with oaks.
